Car vs Deer: Who Wins?

On Saturday morning, Tony, Chasity, and I were headed to Banner Elk, NC, to check out Lees-McRae College (a separate post about that coming later!)!

According to GPS, it is about 2.5 hours to get there. We left about 6:30am for a 9:30am start time for the Open House event.

We were about 35 miles away; Chasity and I were both sleeping, as usual. Tony hit the brakes, and it woke me up. I opened my eyes just in time to see and feel a deer hit the side of my van.

Tony said it came from the woods on the right side of the highway, and he slowed down and moved over. The deer sped up and CRUNCH!

This is what my van looks like now. We are waiting on the insurance people to call us and set up all the fixing information.

Tony had to pull that really bent part off of the tire so we could drive and not split a tire!

Yes! That is deer hair on the car!!!

Once we got pulled over by the guardrail, Tony got out and checked the damage. He was about to call 9-1-1 when two members of the Wilkes County Sheriff's Department pulled in behind us.

They turned on their lights and checked on us.

They said they were in a parking lot off the exit and heard tires squealing and a crunch. They thought they'd come check it out.

So.... they found us. On the side of the road. About to call for them.

They really were very friendly gentlemen!

Hopefully, insurance will get the van fixed soon. Then we will be able to have an UNcrunched van.

But, as my dad always says, "Things can be fixed or replaced, but people can't be!" We are very blessed that it was not worse and that we are all fine!
