What You Say Matters

My mother has told me my entire life that I should try to be kind to people. I shouldn't hurt people's feelings with my words. I can honestly say I always remember that, but I don't always practice it. As I sit here today, I wish that other people had been taught the same thing. Let me just start by saying this... I am tough. I can handle myself in most situations (as long as there are no dogs involved!).  I can deal with most people. I really do not get hurt easily. However... It matters what you say. Just remember that you don't know everyone! Even if you have known someone for years, like more than 20, you don't know everything about them. They could be going through things that you never imagined. I recently had someone ask me when I was going to "get a job" so Tony wouldn't have to work so many hours.  Let me start with this. This hurt me. I'm not "unemployed" by choice.  Trust me.  I have been applying for an...

Update….on My World

Saturday, the Princess had a double header. It was freezing at 8am. They finally won (after scoring 12 runs in the final inning) by 1 run. They won the second game by 1 run in the final inning also.   They are now in 1st place so they will play ONE game this weekend for the championship!   My sister got two new foster kids last week. So the Princess is hanging out with one of them for Halloween. (Considering the situation, I can’t share names or anything, but it is a girl who is around the Princess’s age.)   Sunday was the first day since the end of September that Tony did not have to work.  So we all went to church together and cleaned the house.  With me working full time, Tony working over 30 straight days, and the Princess having softball, the house kind of got neglected!  So…. the living room actually has furniture and carpet!  (They were hidden under mail and laundry!)  lol   Tomorrow, I’m supposed to have my first offic...

Yesterday

Image
We did a lot of NOTHING yesterday!   It was nice.   There was no softball for us.  So we didn’t have to get up AS early!   Tony is still working weekends. This is the 4th one….I think. I lost count. He has until the beginning of Nov. to work every weekend.   The Princess and I went to check out a couple of locations for a party we are helping to plan. One place is fabulous, bring in your own food and everything. The other place is pretty, but in order to be there you must use their catering service.  (From what I have heard, their caterers charge the equivalent of a small down payment on a house for the number of people we are going to be serving that night.)  So….  we are still looking, but we need to get something nailed down soon!    300-400 people is A LOT, but it will be worth it when it all comes together!

Another Busy Week

As if Mondays were not packed enough, let’s throw in a Girl Scout leaders’ meeting and Open House (to see what the kids have been doing) at the Princess’s school.   While she is at softball practice tonight, I will be at the Girl Scout leaders’ meeting. I guess we will miss out on the Open House.   Tomorrow after work, I am meeting with someone to try to get a very special party planned. (More details to come!)   Wednesday, I have a PTC meeting to work on planning the end-of-year Gala for the Princess’s school.   Thursday is Girl Scouts.   Friday…. wait? Do I honestly not have anything on Friday? HOLY COW!!   Saturday we don’t have anything either. No softball.  Tony just has to work!   Sunday…Sunday is always church, homework, laundry, grocery shopping.   This is definitely shaping up to be a very busy week.

Making Decision

Image
I have always hated making decisions.   Last night, I made a great one!   After being broken-hearted that I could not make it to scrapbooking, Tony actually got off work in time that I could go. However, after going by my Papaw’s how to get my mom… (She takes his car to him on Fridays.  That’s another story. )…I decided that I would not go scrapbooking. I could have made it for a couple of hours. I decided to spend time with my family.   We haven’t done that in a while. So, we went to the Chinese buffet. After dinner, we went to watch part of the race that is in town this weekend on my dad’s huge TV. My brother and two nephews were there. We stayed until about 9:30pm. Then we left and came home to get some rest.   I wrote my article about my Interpreting career. (When it is posted, I will link it here.)   Then we were all in bed by 11pm.   Now, Tony is already at work.   The Princess is eating breakfast and getting ready...

Randomness

I have a writing assignment due today. It’s about my career. When it is posted online, I will let you know.     Today is “Favorite NFL Team” day at the Princess’s school.  I had to get her a shirt. It matches one that Tony got for Christmas. Now, they have two shirts that are exactly the same. They dress alike without even knowing it!  lol    I finished reading another book yesterday. If you get a chance, read The Invention of Hugo Cabret . It’s an easy read because much of the story is told in pictures, but it is a great story.    I’m so tired. I feel like I never get any sleep.   Last night we had 11 girls at Girl Scouts again. That STILL wasn’t everyone!   I’m supposed to go scrapbook tonight, but I’m sure I won’t make it. Tony has been getting home late all week. Then I’d have to leave early to get home to sleep so that I can have a 6am alarm tomorrow morning. (These double headers are killing me!)  BUT….no g...

Homecoming

Image
Once a year, most churches have Homecoming celebrations. I don’t know where the tradition started, but I have always been in churches that have them.   Today, the church that we recently left is having Homecoming. My parents still attend there, and Dad wants me to come help with the music. So, I’m going. The Princess and I are going. I’m not thrilled. I don’t really want to see everyone there again. There are a few people I could do without seeing again….ever. But, since Dad asked, I will be there.   After church, the Princess and I will be coming home to get a lot of work done. She has two projects for books that she completed last week.  She is on book 6 now for the school year. I am getting ready to start book 4 for myself.   I have plenty of stuff for the PTC from her school to take care of this afternoon.    We will be plenty busy. Not to mention….laundry, homework, and groceries.  All the while, Tony is working and we get to do it...

It’s Friday.

I have been writing all week.   But, that is not all.   I have actually taken time this week to see my parents, supper 2x. I have learned new Nintendo DS games with the Princess this week. (Ok! Not really new. It was Super Mario! LOL) Tony, the Princess, and I played NFL Monopoly last night. Tony beat us really bad, but we played.  (No different that real Monopoly. Instead of street names, it has teams. Houses are “sections” and condos are “stadiums”.)   Tonight, we are supposed to go hang out with my parents, eat supper, and play canasta. We haven’t done that in a long time. So I am looking forward to it.   Tomorrow, I was supposed to go scrapbooking all day with my Divas, but Tony has to work. So, I will not get to go. I know my parents will be busy tomorrow, so I won’t ask them to keep the Princess for me….even if they say it is fine…..even if she helps them more than getting in their way!    So, I will go visit my Divas for a l...

The Plan for Today

Last week, Tony informed me that he had to work today and tomorrow.  Luckily, he's in town, and not an hour away like normal.  Unfortunately, the last time he worked a weekend on the job he's doing this weekend, he worked Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday.  They all blended together though because he didn't get off work "Friday" until 2 am Saturday morning.  Then he went BACK to work 8am, and he worked until 3am Sunday morning.  Sunday he went back in at 8 am.  He got off at 5am on Monday morning, took Chasity to school, took a shower, and went back to work until 9pm on Monday night!!!  The GREAT thing about it?  The paycheck.  Saturdays are automatic time-and-a-half.  Sundays are automatic double time !!!  That paycheck was AWESOME!!!  The horrible thing?  We didn't get to see Tony much and he was exhausted the entire week trying to "catch up" on sleep! However, he says that is won't be that bad this weekend....

Moving Update and Randomness

Chasity is officially a BEAR now! I got her registered for her new school on Wednesday afternoon. We will find out on August 20th who her teacher is!! We are still uniform shopping! We are going from "normal" clothes to uniforms this year! So...we are uniform shopping! Last night we packed about a dozen boxes. I'm hoping that the other stuff in the house will just pack itself now! However, I'm pretty sure that's NOT going to happen! Tony informed me Wednesday that he will now be working every Saturday (possibly Sundays too!) until school starts! How many of those are there? Let's see..... July 31, Aug. 7, Aug. 14, and Aug. 21!! It's not like we have anything to do or have plans for those weekends.... July 31st---paint rooms at new house Aug. 7th--move to new house Aug. 14th--Chasity's birthday party Aug. 21st--run around like crazy people trying to do last minute school stuff We have NOTHING to do in the next FOUR weeks! I don't know WHY I ...

Playing "Mustard"

When I was in high school, I had a teacher that would say we were having a "mustard" day instead of a "ketchup" (catch up) day. Chasity and I had a great time last week during Spring Break. Thursday, we went t have our nails (hand and feet) done. I have pics to post of that soon! Friday night, I had a sleepover with the area Girl Scouts. I had to help them to get ready to Bridge up to the next age level. Now, I need to plan the ceremony that goes with it! That will be in a couple weeks. Right now, I'm trying to wrap my brain around how OSHA and NC Labor Laws do not regulate how long a person can work. That's right! In NC, according to the NC Department of Labor, (and I just spoke with them this morning) there is no law that says your employer has to allow you breaks and time to eat. Crazy right? Well, listen to this. My husband went to work around 8am yesterday morning. He hasn't come home yet! He's been at work (and working) for more than...
