Job Fair

Today, it is mandatory for all UNCC student teachers to attend the Education Job Fair on campus. We have known about this day for awhile. However, just a couple days ago, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced they are cutting almost 900 jobs and might have to close some schools because of budget issues for next year! I'm really in need of a full-time paid teaching job for next year! Pray that God will open doors for the job I need. Until next time........

Open House

Tonight at my assigned school, we have Open House. So, when the kids get out at 3:30pm today, I get to make a mad dash for Chasity. Then I get to come home and freshen up (comb the hair, brush the teeth, etc) and head back to school. I do hope to meet some of the parents tonight. Unfortunately, unless they did a "ConnectEd" (phone tree type system) message, most of the parents I'd like to meet probably don't know about the Open House. You know, there are parents who are "on top" of everything. The kid shows up for EVERYTHING at school. Then there are the parents that either don't care or just can't do it all. Those are the ones I want to meet; I'd venture a guess that those are not the ones who will attend tonight. I think the Open House is a great idea. The students generally get new teachers each semester. So, Open House is a time for parents and students and teachers to all be in the same room. I really like it! (I might have a diff

"It's viral. Treat the symptons."

Wow! I'm amazed at how many new "faces" there are on my "followers" now! Thanks for coming by bloggy friends. I can't believe it's Saturday already! I have been swamped this week. My baby girl missed two days of school this week. I picked her up early on Tuesday and took her to the doctor. Doctor said it was viral and when she didn't have a fever, she could go back to school. So she went back on Thursday. (Wednesday was the first day she had ever missed.....she had perfect attendance until then.) Anyways, I'm not as sad about her missing as I thought I'd be. I'm just glad she's getting better. Anyways, Thursday night around 11pm, Chasity started scratching. When she's sick, she normally sleeps with us so we can get to her more quickly if she needs us. Well, she started hitting and kicking when I tried to get her to stop scratching. So I called Tony in the room. We started looking at her, and she had broken into whelp

Missing School

Well, from the looks of it, Chasity is going to miss school tomorrow. :( She has had perfect attendance since she started Kindergarten. However, right now she has a fever and is hurting everywhere. The doctor said that it's viral and there is no medicine. We have to just treat the symptoms. So, hopefully she'll be well enough to go to school for Thursday and Friday. Tony is going to stay home with her tomorrow. I'll have Thursday (if she isn't better). My mom said she'd find a way to take Friday if we need her. Just pray that Chasity gets to feeling better! Until next time........

Snowed in!

First, I would like to say welcome to all the new readers/followers that have joined recently! I'm glad you're here. Hopefully you'll enjoy what you read. If you have any questions, please ask. I'll try to answer most anything I can. Since I live in NC, we don't usually get a lot of snow. However, two weeks ago (the weekend of Jan. 31) my Girl Scout troop planned to do a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. It snowed 6" that weekend. School was cancelled on Monday and Tuesday of that week. We had to make up last Saturday and are supposed to make up a day this Monday (2/15). However, last night, it snowed again. We got another 2". We might have 3", but it's just that the roads are really bad. Right now, it's officially Girl Scout cookie season. So, the girls have cookie booths (outside stores and stuff) every weekend until March 6th. We were supposed to have one last night and all day today. :( I guess you can say it's cancelled....si

It's Girl Scout Cookie Time!

Tueday evening, I picked up the cookies our troop sold in our initial order. Wednesday evening I met one of the parents and gave her the order for her daughter. Tonight, all the other parents are picking up the orders for their girls. Tomorrow night we have a cookie booth. Saturday we have an ALL DAY cookie booth! The booths this weekend are different that most. I know you've all seen Girl Scouts standing outside of WalMart or whatever! Well, my troop is going to be at the edge of a parking lot. We are going to have a table and signs and a canopy (if it's not too windy) and we are going to have a DRIVE-THRU cookie booth. Customers wouldn't have to get out of their cars to get cookies! lol How exciting is that???!?!?!?! We are the first troop in our area to try it. However, a troop in VA tried it and they sold about 17,000 boxes of cookies in ONE WEEKEND! I am not prepared to sell 17,000 boxes of cookies! lol I am only taking about 400 boxes. I'm setting up

Five Question Friday (on Saturday)

Image
So yesterday, I joined The Blog Frog . So this morning, I was going through some of the recent posts on there. I found this cute little thing. It's called 5 Question Friday. All you have to do is copy and paste the questions to your blog. Then you answer them. Then, you can go back and link up so others can see your answers. This was started by Mama M. at My Little Life . So after you read my answers for the week, go check her out! :) Now... on to Five Question Friday. 1. What are you most afraid of? DOGS! I am afraid of all dogs. I was bitten by a dog (a chihuahua) when I was 8 or 9. So, I have been terrified of all dogs ever since. 2. Do you use a flat iron or curling iron? When I use one, it's a flat iron. However, most of the time, I just use a round brush and a hair dryer when I do my hair! :) 3. Hands-free or phone to the ear? Both! Either! I have a bluetooth. My parents got it for me for Christmas. So, when I remember to charge it (you know, plug it into my comput

A Little Less Sticky

So...a couple of days ago, I posted about my Sticky Situtation . Well, my mom went on Thursday of this week (2 days ago) to see Chasity get her Perfect Attendance Award for 2nd quarter. (She hasn't missed a day since she started Kindergarten last year!!) And, my mom ate lunch with her. So, in that time, Mom had time to talk to Chasity's teacher. Her teacher said that Chasity is "talkative" and will be getting marks below the line for talking. Well, that's ok with me! I'd rather have a "talkative" child than one who sits there and asks afraid of anyone who speaks to her. Plus, I can't say much about it. She definitely got the "talkative" gene from her momma! :) I talk all the time.... non-stop.... and... I used to get in trouble for it too. (My dad reminds me of that every time I get frustrated with Chasity!) Right now, I think we're in a place where I can be ok with her getting in trouble...as long as she keeps her hands

Student Teaching

So today, I officially taught my first class. It went really well. Unfortunately, I did what I was told! Wait! Did I say unfortunately? YES! I listened to my University Supervisor (US) and my Cooperating Teacher (CT)! I'm a good student! So what did they tell me? They said plan more than you'll have time for.... so.... I did! I had WAY more in the plan for today than what we actually accomplished. However, Monday is not that far away. I can pick up with the end of today's lesson and carry on from there. Overall impressions? I handled myself really well! :) I think I might be able to do this "teaching thing" after all! Until next time........

Testing....1...2.....3.....

So in January (the 9th to be exact) I took the Praxis II for English Language Literature and Composition. No, unfortunately, the name is NOT longer than the actual test! lol Anyways, I got back part of my results today. However, I am still waiting on the written test results to come back. I can hope that I get enough points in this second part so that I don't have to retake it! I HATE taking tests! On a different note, I'm giving my students a quiz tomorrow. This one, is made up by my Cooperating Teacher (CT). However, I have one made up to give in a couple of weeks. It's nothing hard....5 questions....10 blanks...10 points. I have to keep all the grades too. OMG! I have to figure out a way to do that. I might need to check out the "Teacher Store" (I don't know the name) at the mall this weekend. I might need to get a different kind of book for keeping my grades. Anyways... I'm having fun. I teach my first FULL LENGTH class tomorrow. If I li

Sticky Situation

**Warning: This post is long...but I had to get it out!*** Ever had a situation where you just didn't know what to do? I'm in a situation right now where I have no idea what to do. There is something going on with Chasity at school. I don't know what it is, and I don't have any way of figuring it out. How do I know? Well, without going into much detail (because I don't want to "air" anything until it's all over), here's how I know. Last week, we had a situation with Chasity at school. Instead of calling us in the middle of the day (when they needed to and we could have taken care of it) the assistant teacher waited until AFTER school to call and leave a message on my HOME machine. In the message, she included that she knew that I was at my student teaching, but that we could call her. So when Tony got the message at 4pm, he started calling. Around 8pm, she called back to tell us that there were FOUR things that happened at school on Thursd
