First Day of School (Post #600)

Image
This is my 600th post. I have been waiting for the right thing to write, and I think this is it!   Today, the Princess starts at a brand new school. She has her backpack and supplies all ready. Her uniforms are laid out and waiting. She is always excited about school, but this year it seems even more so.   She’s going into the 5th grade. Like I said, it’s a BRAND NEW school. They just finished building it in July. The teachers are still working to make the rooms perfect….even yesterday!    I am heading into a new school year. I am excited for the things that await me this year. In reality, I only have plans for today finished. I worked really hard on everything else this past week, and I attended a million and one meetings (or so it seems)! So, today during my planning period, I will be PLANNING!  I’m glad to be at a school that will allow me to do that. Other schools have things for the teachers to do every day during their planning periods.   Because of our busy sched

Happy Birthday Princess!

On Saturday, we had a Duck Dynasty themed bowling party for the Princess. There were about 15 people there!   On Sunday, the Princess turned 10. She is still the most beautiful, thoughtful, adoring little girl. But, she’s becoming a young lady before my eyes.   On Saturday, she had softball practice. Then she wore camo to the party.   On Sunday, she was all pink and girly. She wore a skirt to church. After church, my mom took her to have her nails done!  PINK….of course!   She’s prissy, but tough.  I’m so glad God gave her to me. I just hope that I can be the mommy that I need to be for her. (I know I mess up sometimes, but I hope I don’t send her running to therapy! LOL)    Today, is my first day back at work. So, the Princess gets to go spend time with my mom. She is going to love that!

A Lot Can Happen in Six Years

Image
WOW! I can’t believe that I first posted on this blog on October 25, 2008. That seems like so long ago, but it really isn’t.   6 short years.   In six years, the Princess has started school. She has been a dancer, gymnast, Girl Scout, and wonderful daughter.   In six years, I have started and completed my Master’s degree. Taught for two years and starting my third year next week. Began writing as a freelance writer and getting paid for it.   In six years, Tony has been at the same job the entire time. He has moved up the ladder as far as positions go, and pay, but he has been stable with the same company. That is a blessing!   In six years, we have only moved once, but we stopped renting to become homeowners. We are still unpacking because it is hard to move and work and have a family at the same time.   In six years, I have watched my family get closer as my parents have gotten weaker. Don’t get me wrong! They are still kicking, but I have watched my parents’

Catching Up….Again!

I haven’t written in a few days again. I really hope that when I get back to work next week, I will get back to writing here every day.   Yes! I go back to work next week. I’m excited and scared. It’s the same thing I did last year at the same school. I’m not scared, just anxious. New kids. New co-workers. New boss.     I have open house at for my kids on Thursday evening. The Princess has Open House at her new school next Thursday also. We are going to have to work that one out.     Monday and Tuesday of this week, I did not feel well. I was so dizzy on Monday that I had to have the Princess to take care of me. I slept for almost 2 hours and felt better. Tuesday I felt much better….just a little residual dizziness. It happens sometimes. I’m afraid to tell my doc because the meds they are suggesting will take me away from driving for 6 months. That means that I won’t be able to get to work.   That’s not good.    I have gotten into a pace with my writing. Now….it’s time

It’s Friday.

I have been writing all week.   But, that is not all.   I have actually taken time this week to see my parents, supper 2x. I have learned new Nintendo DS games with the Princess this week. (Ok! Not really new. It was Super Mario! LOL) Tony, the Princess, and I played NFL Monopoly last night. Tony beat us really bad, but we played.  (No different that real Monopoly. Instead of street names, it has teams. Houses are “sections” and condos are “stadiums”.)   Tonight, we are supposed to go hang out with my parents, eat supper, and play canasta. We haven’t done that in a long time. So I am looking forward to it.   Tomorrow, I was supposed to go scrapbooking all day with my Divas, but Tony has to work. So, I will not get to go. I know my parents will be busy tomorrow, so I won’t ask them to keep the Princess for me….even if they say it is fine…..even if she helps them more than getting in their way!    So, I will go visit my Divas for a little bit, but I won’t stay to scr

Thinking….I know….That’s Dangerous

So I have been writing these articles about fashion lately. So far I have written about 35-40 articles. Today one of them is about how to organize a closet and accessories. I keep thinking to myself, am I the only person who does not have a summer wardrobe and a winter one? Am I the only person who wears the same clothes all year?   Seriously, there are few items in my closet that are not worn year round. My coats are there. Obviously I’m not wearing them when it is hot. My flip flops…I don’t wear them in the cold. Although, in NC, it really does not get THAT cold. So I could probably wear those year round. I don’t wear my capris and swimsuit in the winter either.   My shirt are all short sleeved or no longer than elbow length. I have black pants, knit and dress pants, that I wear all the time. I am almost 6 feet tall. It is hard to find pants that fit; when I do, I buy three or four pairs. Right now, I have 5 or 6 pairs of black dress pants that all look exactly alike. I’m sur

Slacking Off

Image
I have noticed that I have been slacking off on my writing here. I have not written every day like I was before school let out. It’s not a bad thing I guess, but I feel weird when I have had a day or so off. I never know what to come back to write about.   Work starts back on August 19th officially for me. School starts back for the Princess on August 26th.   We have had two vacations already this year. We are looking at two more. That’s the best part about me having a job. We get to plan to do more things.  More pictures for the scrapbooks. More time with the Princess and the family.   For Labor Day, I think we are going to go to Boone and visit Tweetsie. The Princess earned tickets through Girl Scout cookie sales again. I think we will head up there that weekend.   Then…right after Christmas, we are planning to kidnap my parents and head to Gatlinburg again. This will be the third year in a row! The first year was to get Tony some new boots. Last year was to get my

Sunshiny Day

My friend Phyllis at Just Bcauz nominated me for the Sunshine Award a couple of days ago. Since I was gone, I am just now getting to this. The rules are: Include the award’s logo in a post or on your blog. Link to the person who nominated you. Answer 10 questions about yourself. Nominate other bloggers. Link your nominees to the post and comment on their blogs, letting them know they have been nominated. Drum roll please...   1. What is your favorite color? Purple—the royal, majestic, deep purple.  Not the overly blue-y or overly red-y purple. 2. What is your favorite animal? None! I am allergic to everything, and I am terrified of dogs. 3. What is your favorite number? 6—but I do love most even numbers. Sometimes odd numbers freak me out. 4. Favorite non-alcoholic drink? Double chocolately chip blended cream frappuccino 5. What is your favorite alcoholic drink? I don’t have one. I don’t drink alcohol….never
