The World According to Leslie

Last week, Tony, Chasity, and I had the opportunity to help assemble bicycles for Toys for Tots.   Cougar Run Winery in Concord saves their tip money for the year and purchases bicycles to donate to Toys for Tots. Last year, they had over 100. This year, they had ALMOST 100---but they were shut down for 4 months!   Imagine what they could have done this year, if they had not been closed for 4 months!  Panoramic Shot of the Room of Bikes and Volunteers Chasity and the group of scouts she was working with assembled 46 of the bikes. That's about 1/2 of the total. They started at 6pm last Thursday, and they were done (and cleaned up) by 9pm. Three hours, 8 scouts, parents too, and they completed 46 bikes!  Tony and Chasity together worked on and completed 8 bikes. Today is the 3rd of 3 days that I have to work on a Saturday.    At the beginning of the year, my county had a 3 day Orientation for new teachers.  Since I was not hired until September, I have had make up days –December, January, and February.   I get paid for showing up.    The first day was a lot of taking notes and learning.  The 2nd day was taking notes in the morning and lesson planning in the afternoon.  Today is going to be the same way.  So I am taking two laptop computers…. mine and the one from the school!   I can’t stand to TYPE on the one from the school.  The keyboard is very small.  But, my computer does not have the SMART Board software on it.   I have a lot of stuff to take with me to get to this afternoon.  If I get to it, then I am going to need both computers.     I wonder what they are going to feed us for lunch today!

Today I got the call! I begin work on Monday. Monday I will be working with the two other English I teachers. Then on Tuesday, they are hoping to have my kids ready for me! WOW! I wasn't expecting it that quickly! However.... I'm ready! Let's do this!

In just a few hours, I have a meeting with my academic advisor at UNCC. I am going to talk to her about my internship for the Spring. After that meeting, I am going to try to get some help in the computer lab for my ePortfolio. I just found out the other day that I have to re-do it because the teacher that had me set it up....well....she's new (I hope!) and she told us the wrong way to set it up. So I have to re-do my ePortfolio. Of course, I didn't know I was supposed to be adding stuff to it every semester either. She didn't tell us that either. So.....now that I have to re-do it, I can do it correctly from the beginning and not have to go back to do it again! :) Tomorrow I have to call to make an appointment with the College of Education so I can do my interview for placement. I think that is how they decide where to put me for next year. Of course, I know where I WANT them to put me, but I might not get that! In January, I have the Praxis II test. In May, I...
