Teaching and Football

Image
I am an NFL fan. I grew up pulling for the Washington Redskins, and I still do. Except, they are now the Washington Football Team .  However, when I was a high school senior, the Carolina Panthers arrived in town. They were an expansion team and played about an hour from my home.  I am now a fan of both, but I pull more for Washington than Carolina! #httr #httwft A couple of weeks ago, Carolina invited Cam Newton back as quarterback. He's a great athlete and an intelligent player. However, if the plays given to him do not work, why do we blame him?  The play callers are sitting in boxes above the field (or on the sidelines) and telling him what to do. Is it his fault if a play doesn't go like it is supposed to?  It got me to thinking.  Teaching and Football are very similar.     I have been in the education field for more than a decade. I am not currently teaching, but I haven't been out so long that I have forgotten what it's like.  ...

Final Party Touches and Blown Mind

Image
Yesterday, on Black Friday, instead of Christmas shopping, Tony, the Princess, and I went to WalMart and Sam’s Club to get all the things we needed to get for the party today. We still had plates, forks, spoons, and all that to get. We also had to get all the food.  We knew we wouldn’t have room before yesterday to make a place in the refrigerator for it, so we had to wait until yesterday to get it.   We didn’t leave the house until about 4pm. So….all the crazy Black Friday shoppers were already at home, asleep!      We got into Sam’s Club, got all the stuff we needed, and checked out in less than 2 hours.  I was suspecting about 4.  Then we got in and out of WalMart in about an hour.  That’s a new record for us.    Today, all I have to go get are the balloons for décor. We aren’t doing much, but I would like to have some balloons to make the room more festive. So, I have to get those.    Today, we also have to...

Thanksgiving Recap

I’m a little behind on here posting my “Thankfuls”.  I have them all on Facebook though.    Yesterday, we went to Mom and Dad’s house around noon. We were supposed to eat at 1pm, but someone ALWAYS has to be late! lol  This year it was my sister.   We had about 20 people at the house.  It was crazy.  After lunch, the guys all crowded into the living room to watch football!      My sister-in-law took a nap. My sister laid down with her two babies (foster daughters) to get them to sleep.  Mom and I worked on sewing things that the Girl Scouts are going to sell next weekend.    Then…once everyone finally woke up, we finished discussions for Mom and Dad’s anniversary party. The party is tomorrow. I’m just hoping I can get everything I need done by then so that I can get some sleep!  I need REST!  But….  I’m thinking I won’t get any of that until January!

Superbowl XLVII---Feb. 3, 2013

WOW!  That was an amazing game.  For a minute there, I thought that the San Francisco 49ers were going to come back and beat the Baltimore Ravens .  Here's the deal!  I am a Washington Redskins fan!  I have always been.  I will always be.  Obviously I'm a fan if I still say it...even after some of the really bad years they have had. :)  This year, the Redskins beat the Dallas Cowboys (my husband's favorite team) TWICE!  Once, to knock the Cowboys out of the playoffs.  It was AWESOME! Needless to say, I didn't have a team in the Superbowl.  But, I had to pick one to pull for...right? :) How did you pick the team you pulled for in the Superbowl?  My husband stood by the NFC!  I, on the other hand, chose my Superbowl team by a couple of players.  First, during the playoffs, I discovered a player I had never heard about-- Ray Lewis.   He's a pretty fabulous guy.  (I did some reading up and check...
