I'm Getting Old

After a couple years of my knees hurting, I finally went back to the doctor today. It's official. I have arthritis in my knees. THANKS MOM! My mom has this also.  Apparently, this is hereditary. I have two (yes TWO) siblings.... she could have passed this to one of them.  NOPE... She passed it to me. Her, my Grandma, had it. She had her knees replaced. Mom has it. She NEEDS her knees replaced, but she keeps putting it off. She wants to wait until she retires, but we all know she's NEVER going to retire.  So, I'm not sure when she's going to have it done! I have it. It's early. No knee replacement talk for me. (BUT... I'm guess I'm going to REALY get old one day and they will start talking about it!) Anyways, today, I got Cortisone shots! Do you know how bad those hurt????  REALLY BAD! I cried. After the doc finished my right knee, she asked if I still wanted the left one done. The RIGHT one, is the good one.  The LEFT one is the worst one....

Remembering Grandpa Edwards

Yesterday was the 16th anniversary of my Grandpa's death.  Some days it seems like yesterday.  Other days, it doesn't hurt so badly. I was a freshman at Appalachian State University. I think it was a Tuesday.  I called my parents every day.  Some days, I would call Mom a few times.  That day, I couldn't get anyone to answer.  :(  About 5pm, right before I had concert band practice, I got a phone call.  It was my dad calling from the box downstairs.  I didn't think anything weird about it because Dad has always (almost my entire life) been a truck driver.  So when Dad said he was in the area and wanted to see me, I didn't think it was strange.  (His truck routes took him many places on a daily basis.) When I got downstairs to let them in, I saw my dad and my pastor, Greg Sloop.  I knew something was fishy then.  When I opened the door, I saw Mom.  She was teary-eyed.  Then Dad and Pastor Greg told me about G...

My Attitude

Really, I think I might be in need of an "attitude adjustment".  Yesterday, I was in such a bad mood all day.  I guess it started when I found out that I am going to have to work next Saturday (Jan. 26) to make up for the " Not So Snow Day ".  It really was ridiculous in my opinion to have us stay home in order to watch the snow melt all day!  :(  After that, I realized that I wasn't going to have time (or money) to get to my aunt's house.  I need to pick up my Grandma's (mom's mom) China Cabinet (hutch, thing).  My Grandma lived with my aunt and uncle until my aunt couldn't care for her any longer.  So we moved her up here to a Retirement Center.  My aunt passed, and my Grandma passed.  A few months ago, my uncle passed too.  Of course that leaves an empty house for the kids to take care of.  They are planning to sell the house.  However, I need to get the hutch out of there before they move it all to consignment so...

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Today would have been my Grandma's (mom's mom) 93 birthday. However, since Jesus called her home to live with Him on June 30th, she's celebrating with Him. So Happy Birthday Grandma! Have a great day celebrating with Jesus! I know that she had some wonderful birthdays here. She would talk about them and tell us her favorite birthdays...until she couldn't remember anything. (She had Alzheimer's.) But... I know that today is her BEST birthday ever! She is celebrating with Jesus!

Heartbroken and Rejoicing

It has been a strange, long, busy month. I will (I promise to try) get some pics and info up for what has been going on this past month. Right now, my heart is broken, but I am rejoicing. Yesterday at 3:29pm, God called my Grandma Edwards home. This is my mom's mom. She would be 93 on July 30th. She had been sick for 2 weeks.....exactly.....14 days. She has 4 children still living--mom, Uncle Tommy, Uncle Arbeth, and Aunt Rhonda. Mom and Uncle Tommy live here in town. So they helped the nursing home to take care of her. (YES! We had to help them because they did not always do their jobs!) Aunt Rhonda now lives in GA. She was living in SC, but her hubby got a job in GA so she had to move. Uncle Arbeth is the oldest. He's in his 70s. His health isn't great, but he still gets around from day-to-day. His wife has Alzheimer's. He lives about an hour away. The nursing home called the family in on Tuesday. Mom and Uncle Tommy basically moved in up there. They o...

Brain is Empty and Some UPDATES

Since the other day when I emptied my brain on here, I haven't really done anything (except homework)!! Before midnight tonight, I will complete my FINAL assignment for this class I'm in. Then I'll complete the Evaluation that has been sitting in my UNCC email inbox for over a week!!! :) I'm looking forward to that one! (Honestly, I hate doing the evals when there is nothing to say! It's really boring!) Chasity went back to the doctor on Monday for her ear. The infection is gone, but there is a 15% tear in her right ear. They did the complete hearing test. Her left ear is PERFECT. However, she has about a 20-25 decibel loss in her right ear. That means that if you are speaking into her right ear, you have to be loud our she won't hear you. :( That makes me sad!! There is another surgery they can do for her. After the summer, she goes back for another check-up. If her ear hasn't healed itself, then the doctor will probably want to do the surgery du...

Full Brain

So it's been 2 weeks today since I wrote anything. Nothing much has been happening. But my brain is full from all kinds of stuff. I have be working on homework. I have a project that requires that I do research with the students I'm teaching....except that I'm not teaching. So I'm having to be REALLY creative!!!! We'll just have to see how that plays out. :) I only have about 3 weeks left in this class. I'm glad! My Grandma (Mom's mom) was in the hospital a couple weeks ago. She went in for a UTI and severe dehydration. After 3 days of IVs and some rest, she was sent back to the Retirement Center. Now that she is back there, my mom, her brother that lives here in town, his wife and their daughter have been taking turns going to feed Grandma. She isn't eating much. The doctors have taken her off of all her medicines. She has Alzheimer's and has had it for a while. They said that her medicines were just making her tired and they want to try ...

Numb

So... this is what numb feels like. This has been one crazy week. With VBS every night, I have been getting very little sleep. Then I spend the day working on VBS stuff and then go to VBS at night. When I got home, I'd crash! Today, I spent all day (from 7a-4:30p) with Girl Scout leaders. I had Kick-Off training today. So, I went there. I got up at 5:30 today. I was out of the house by 6:30 to take Chasity to my mom's house (Tony had to work) and head to the carpool. Then I spent 9a-4p in classes (3 classes with 10 minutes between and 30 minutes for lunch). When I called home to let mom know I was on the way, she said she was getting ready to go see my Grandma. So I took her and Chasity there when I got to mom's house. However...when I got to Mom's house, she told me that my Aunt JoAnn--who has been sick for a while with Cancer--died this morning. Her funeral and everything will be the beginning of the week. So, I have to get ready to sing there. I told her ...

Banned from Daycare (and Knee Surgery)

So...our church daycare has been open since January 2005. My child was the first one enrolled. No, I wasn't thrilled since I had moved down here so that she wouldn't have to be in daycare. (My mom was watching my brother's youngest at her house...so she was watching Chasity there too!) We were trying to avoid daycare altogether. However... the church opened the daycare and my mom became the director. So Chas started going there. Well... because daycare is quite expensive, they (the powers that be) worked out a deal with me. I could get a discount if I'd work 3-4 hours a day to help the daycare! I'm not much for small children and I despise diapers, but I agreed! lol So I have been an "employee" of the daycare since a few weeks after it opened. So what's the problem? Back in April, I worked in my mom's place at the daycare because she went to the church conference with some other people from our church. One of the (NEW) girls obviously t...

Coming Together Nicely

So things are starting to come together here... First, we got Gma moved into the nursing home yesterday. I really like it, but I'm pretty sure my mom is wanting her back at the Assisted Living center. However.... I think given time, my mom will like this place just as much! Second, I went to the Girl Scout store today. I got all the badges/patches that the girls earned this year. Next year, I don't think I'm waiting until the last minute to get those! lol BUT.... I know I probably will! Third, plans are starting to come together for Friday Night's Girl Scout Awards Ceremony. People are starting to RSVP. I have the badges... I have all the cookie prizes (and have had for a month now)...snacks are being chosen...and the lady just called a few minutes ago to say that the Cookie Trophies are ready! :) I'm starting to get excited! Last (I think)....my computer monitor completely died on my laptop again, so I sent it off yesterday. I should have it back (and fi...

G is for Grandma and Good Grief!!!!

So I'm on an alphabet kick recently I guess... but.... that's how my brain works I guess. Anyways, some things have been going on around here so I thought I'd write. Good Grief! Actually...both words tie together today! I guess I need to explain Grandma first! Alright...Grandma Edwards...she's my mom's mom! She's 90 years old and has Alzheimer's. She has been living in an Assisted Living facility near here since Christmas. She's been doing pretty well...once we got everything straightened out for her! :) However... Wednesday the staff called my mom to inform her that Gma had a fever--almost 101. They said they were going to have the nurse there check her and they'd let mom know what was going on. I had a meeting that night and mom was supposed to watch Chasity for me. So about 5pm mom called me to say that Chasity was staying with my dad because she was going to check on Gma. That was cool! About 5:15pm mom called back and said that I need...
