Motivational Meanderings--Lionel Messi

"There are more important things in life than winning or losing a game."--Lionel Messi Lionel Messi is a pretty famous soccer player. He probably knows a little something about winning and losing. He's probably experienced both in his lifetime, quite often. Last night, I had the privilege of watching a local high school baseball game. One of my favorite teams, with one of my favorite players, was playing a cross-town rival. At the beginning of the game, the rivals took a 4 to 0 lead over the home team. It wasn't looking good until the pitcher walked a couple batters, one batter got a base hit, and then another (with bases loaded) hit an over the fence grand slam!  The game was tied. A couple of innings later, the home team pulled ahead by a couple of runs. The pitcher was doing a great job. He had walked a couple of batters, but who hasn't? Then, the batter from the rival team leaned into a pitch and the umpired said the pitcher hit the batter. The b...

Exciting Weekend

This weekend was pretty good. Actually, I was so exhausted from the weekend that I took a TWO HOUR nap on Sunday!  (I haven't done that in a long time!) Friday, I went to watch my nephew play in a high school baseball game. He is a sophomore, but he's pitching for the Varsity team this year!  YEP!  He's that good!  He even made the local paper for his work at the end of the game on Friday. You can check out the article here . On Saturday, I taught the Sign Language badge at the Girl Scout Badge Bonanza. It's an event where the girls choose what badges they want to earn, and they can earn up to 4 in the day! It was fun!  I haven't done that in a couple of years! Sunday, we had the VBS meeting at church. It went well. We had a good turn out for the first meeting. I'm still going to need more volunteers, but I think I will be able to get them. After church, we met up with an old friend. She gave us some scrapbooking supplies for The Princess's Silve...

Writing and Baseball

If I want to write over the summer, I need to find clients now.  Why is it that I am having such a hard time bringing myself to apply for these positions?    I see jobs that I can do.  I know that I can do it. I put the jobs on my “watch list”.  Then I watch them until they have been taken by other people. I just need to work up the courage to apply for the jobs I know I can do.  I may see if I can work for the people I wrote for last summer.  If so, I could totally make some serious money this summer.   I found out yesterday that my oldest nephew made the JV baseball team at his school.  I also found out that he plays his first game today against the school where I work.    So….what’s any good aunt to do?  I’m going to go back to watch him play after I pick up the Princess at school and drop off the other girls from carpool.  Then, at 5:30, I’m going to work the ticket gate.  It only makes sense to get pa...

Scattered Brain

Image
Today is one of those days where I just can’t seem to think straight.  The bad news is that it is only 5:20am!  Wait….maybe that’s the good news!  Maybe my brain will wake up ASAP!   I think I dreamed up a new seating chart for my classroom last night!  Even the kids in it!   I haven’t written more than about 5 sentences in my book in over a week!  I just can’t seem to get the time or the thoughts.   Yesterday, I had to work the gate for the baseball/softball/soccer games at work.  1 table—1 price—3  games!   I got there a little early and went to watch a little of the JV baseball game!  When I was leaving, I saw Mr. C!  WOW!  Mr. C is the reason I’m an English teacher! When I was in 11th grade, Mr. C told me I could do anything I wanted to.  He re-instilled my love for reading.  He helped me to overcome all the bad that I had faced in previous English classes!  HE is awesome!  Last...

Boston Marathon—Thoughts and Prayers

I guess yesterday will be one of those days where I will remember exactly where I was and what I was doing….  tragic!   When I heard the news about 9/11, the first person I called was my mom.   When I heard the news about the Boston Marathon yesterday, the first person I called was my mom.    I was in the car.  The radio announcer had just said, “There were a couple of explosions at the Boston Marathon today.  Several people are injured.  More information on our website.”  That didn’t really help me while I was driving.  So I called my mom.  I was on the way home.  I had to grab something and leave again, so I didn’t have time to stop for the news at that moment.   Mom looked it up to see what was online.  Very sketchy details.    I ran my errands I had to run.   Then as we sat at the middle school baseball game for my nephew, more details started coming out online.  People ...

Adding to the Schedule

Chasity has finally made her decision! After a few days of going back and forth, she has decided to officially play baseball AND softball!!  We signed her up on Saturday.  Although Saturday was, I do believe, the coldest day of the year so far, she went to baseball camp for about an hour.   We can see how this goes.  Try-outs are this weekend.  Games start in March! I think she will like it once we get started!

How Do You Do It All?

Ever since school started on August 25, 2008, my friends/family/random people that I talk to have been asking me how I get everything done. For those of you who do not know, Aug. 25, 2008, is the date that Chasity started Kindergarten and I started Graduate School. Other than School and normal family stuff (laundry, dishes, meals, etc.) I am also a member of the PTO board at Chasity's school. I am her Girl Scout Troop leader. I am on the Service Unit (area) Team for Girl Scouts. I am on the Praise and Worship team at church. Chasity has dance. In the Spring, if she wants to again, Chasity has baseball. When I tell people everything we do, their first question is "How do you get it all done?". My answer is always simple.... CALENDARS! lol I have a calendar that I carry with me (datebook--it's cute too!). I have one that goes on my desk here at the house. The desk one is small/thin enough that I can throw it in a notebook or backpack to add stuff to when I...

E is for Explanations and Endeavors!

Today is Monday! So I thought I'd give an explanation for the "Six Word Saturday" that I posted. As if one is really needed.... Thursday...game. We won. Friday...game. We won. Saturday...game. We lost. Actually.... to be honest the other coach cheated and we should have tied and gone into overtime. However... I am trying really hard to be nice (NOW!). I was very rude and ill on Saturday as it happened and immediately after the game. I went so far as to try call the other coach a "cheating jerk who doesn't know anything about playing by the rules". Luckily...after hearing what he had done, other parents and some of the other coaches felt the same way. NO! I didn't go make an announcement, although I felt like it! The parents and other coaches were there.... it was the first of two possible Championship games. If we had won (which we would have in OT) we would have played again. Unfortunately, the coach added a player in the middle of the ...

Six Word Saturday

Image
So a friend who lives in my computer has been doing this for a while now, so I thought I would join in. You explain your life in only 6 words..... so my six words today are..... More baseball than I imagined possible! I'll explain tomorrow (or Monday!) Until next time........

More Baseball

So last night we played again....in the drizzle! I almost pulled Chasity out of the game, but decided to see how hard the rain was going to get! It wasn't bad....so I left her in the game! She did great! She even got the game ball.... Why??? I'm so glad you asked! lol In the first inning, she got a single and knocked a run in. That tied the game at 3-3! Then in the 2nd inning, she got out going to 1st base, but she still knocked in another run. That tied us up 6-6! Then the next batter knocked in the winning run, but because it is a church league, everyone bats every inning (at least in the 5-6 year olds!)! (I think that's a great rule!!) Anyways....the final batter knocked in one more run so we won 8-6! What does that mean? Well....it means that we play tonight again! At 6:30pm we play (if it isn't storming....they are calling for bad storms!). Tonight's game is against a team that also played last night. We aren't sure yet who we play....I did...

Baseball Tournament

Wow! I know I have said it before, but 5-6 year old baseball is stressful! I'm going to have heart failure if they keep playing like this! Monday night, we played a team that we had met twice in regular season. We won once; we lost once! We were hoping to avoid them for a while in the tournament! Anyways.... after Friday night's loss to the Braves (10-9)....we had to play Saturday morning. We won! It went into a single overtime, but we won. Friday night's game went into overtime also! So then we had to play Monday night. OMG!!!!! We played the White Sox--this was going to be the tie breaker for our two teams! Because there is an hour time limit, we usually play 2 innings. Fine.... we can do that! BUT....Monday night, we were tied at the end of the 2nd. So we played our next 4 batters and they played their next 4 batters.... at the beginning of OT, the score was 7-7. At the end of those 8 batters (our 4 and their 4) the score was 9-9. Now.... OT #2. We sco...

Celebration!!!!!

I am so happy! I am typing this on MY computer! My brother-in-law put all my programs back on for me. I have my sister her computer back! I'm loving this! I can put addresses back in my favorites and I don't have to type them in every day! This also means that I will be putting up some pics soon! I have pics of Chasity playing baseball! I have Dance pics! I also have pics of my unicorns to put up...I have someone interested in giving them a home!! (Plus... i"m going to try to get some of my S&P Shakers on here so I can show off some of my favorites!) This also means that you should look for my stuff on eBay soon! I will have it up tonight or tomorrow night! *I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!* Until next time........

Things to Do....and Finding a Home for Unicorns

Y es! I have stuff to do. I have more stuff than I know HOW to do! Let's see... this should be a pretty busy weekend. 1. Get yard sale stuff together. I have some stuff that I need to go through so that I can get rid of some stuff and take it to the Yard Sale tomorrow. YES tomorrow! I know, I know... I should wait until like 2am to get the stuff together! 2. Homework! I have three stories to read that I have to write something about tomorrow...by midnight. So, I'll read AFTER I get yard sale stuff together. And...I'll read at the yard sale! Then I have TWO books to read before May 6th because I have a final that night and the two books that I haven't read yet WILL be on it! :) I have SIX two page papers to write... I just haven't figured out what I am going to write, so I'm having issues writing! I think that's it for this weekend! 3. YARD SALE! I have the yard sale tomorrow morning! I go at 6am...it starts at 7am! 4. Ball game! Chasity ha...

Updates and Such Nonsense

Wow! I can't believe I have waited so long to write again! Trying to finish up classes, get through finals, and complete the Girl Scout meetings for the year, I have been busy! Man! I just realized that I have a snot-load of stuff to do in the next two weeks....all my classes end by May 9th--isn't that FABULOUS??? So last week was interesting. I worked in my mom's place at the daycare for three days. Everything came to a head with Stacy on Thursday, but that's a story for another place and time!! It was interesting. I actually got a good bit of homework finished during play time and naptime those three days! (My mom was out of town for a church conference!!) Friday night, I went to a scrapbooking thing with a friend. I'm working on Chasity's second year now. I've finished her first year....that book is HUGE!!! Now I'm on to the 2nd year. I don't think this book is going to be as big! Of course, I haven't really gotten started yet either!! lol I o...

Nothing to say....But everything on my mind

I haven't really had anything much to say lately. Actually, that's not true! I've had lots to say, but just haven't really wanted to take the time to say it. For example, I gained 5 lbs again! This time, I don't know how I did it! I just did! So now, I'm having to stress about that! Maybe I'm just supposed to stay this size until I get a job and can get more clothes! Clothes cost money....money I don't have until I get a job....a job I will hopefully have in August! So maybe I am going to shrink more after August! However...I am planning to continue trying NOW! Weight Watchers hasn't failed me; I've failed it! I'll get back on the wagon again! Girl Scouts are coming to an end soon. We still have a few more cookies to sale, but I think we might get those gone soon! Chasity has a few more things to do this year...then next year for the older Daisies, it will be easy patches. The NEW Daisies will have the harder ones to get! I ha...

Back in line....

*Deep Breath In* So I have sort of gotten things back in line. I'm caught up on my homework for my UNCC online class. I am almost caught up on my homework for my RCCC online class. I am desperately trying to catch up on my homework for my UNCC face-to-face class. I have to finish the book I started (was supposed to read for last week) and I have to read the book that was assigned for this week. Then next week, I have two books assigned. I haven't looked at those yet, so I'm hoping they are short books! However, today Chasity has baseball practice, so I might get some reading done there....while she's practicing! It's kind of nice to start catching up. I have less than 8 weeks left before I am DONE for the semester! I'm excited! Until next time........
